What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic treatment that suctions out fat cells from areas of your body containing stubborn fat pockets that don’t go away with a healthy diet, weight loss, or regular exercise. Liposuction is minimally invasive with little downtime needed.

What happens during liposuction?

Before liposuction, you may receive a sedative with numbing medicine or general anesthesia to make you fall asleep. Dr. Tran inserts a cannula (a tiny tube) under your skin in areas containing excess fat. He gently suctions out the fat cells while you relax or sleep. Afterward, he completes additional procedures or reinjects the fat into other areas if necessary.

What should I expect after the procedure?

Have a family member or friend drive you home and stay with you after undergoing liposuction. Take any medications and wear compression garments as directed by Dr. Tran. Temporary side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness.
